Los Domingos

De 17-jarige Ainara is een intelligente en idealistische jonge vrouw. Iedereen in haar omgeving verwacht dat ze zal excelleren op de universiteit en het studentenleven induikt, maar zelf lijkt ze meer te voelen voor een contemplatief leven als non. De keuze lokt verschillende reacties uit. Haar vader twijfelt, maar wil toch vooral zijn dochter steunen. Haar atheïstische tante Maite ziet het dan weer helemaal anders. Zij vindt dat haar nichtje op het punt staat haar leven te vergooien.

De Spaanse regisseur Alauda Ruiz de Azúa vertelt een verhaal over familiaire spanningen en de strijd tussen geloof en vrijheid. Los Domingos triomfeerde op het filmfestival van San Sebastián en sleepte er maar liefst vijf prijzen in de wacht, waaronder de Gouden Schelp voor Beste Film.

Her father is hesitant, but above all, wants to support his daughter. Her atheist aunt Maite, on the other hand, sees things quite differently. She believes her niece is on the verge of throwing her life away.

Spanish director Alauda Ruiz de Azúa tells a story of family tensions and the struggle between faith and freedom. Los Domingos triumphed at the San Sebastián Film Festival, winning no fewer than five awards, including the Golden Shell for Best Film.
